Departings and Reencounters

Do you wanna go to that bake shop to buy the chocolate pie you like, after my shift?

Yes! :3

I knew you wouldn’t resist. :)

Sometimes you spoil me too much.

It’s because I love spoiling you.

Awe, Kacchan…

Don’t give me that, I know you like it. ;)

Maybe a little…

I miss you already.

Me too.

I need to go back, talk to you later.

Love you.

I love you too. <3

Izuku smiled at the screen of his phone like a goof before tucking it in his pocket and kept going on his way. It was his day off but, since Katsuki was still at work, he took some time to himself and went to go take a walk at the local mall; he walked by the stores, looking into the windows so lost in thought that he almost didn’t notice a slightly familiar figure entering a baby articles store. Curious, he followed her to confirm his suspicions.

He entered the store shyly as he scanned his surroundings and was soon stopped by a saleswoman who asked if he needed help to pick, at what he said “I’m just taking a look”; as soon as she left, Izuku spot the lady with a facemask and sunglasses he was searching for on the stand beside; her pale hair was tied into a low bun below her cap, but her dark skin was unmistakable. The greenette approached.

“Excuse me…” He called. “Mirko?”

Some raised their heads curiously upon hearing the pseudonym and the woman furrowed her brow as she turned to him. “It’s Usagiyama. Why do you think I’m under disguise, Midoriya?” She corrected him in a whisper.

“O-oh! Sorry, I got you mistaken for someone else…” The freckled one shook his hands frenetically; the onlookers drove their attention away from them, believing in his excuse despite the non-convincible tone.

“And what are you doing here…? Were you following me?” The lady accused.

“Well, I-! Yes…” Izuku confessed nervously.

“And what do you want me to say? There’s no other reason for me to be here, right?” She joked.

“Just as I thought…” He smiled awkwardly. “I haven’t seen you since the Shimuras’ wedding, are you still with Todoroki’s brother?”

“Yes.” Rumi giggled.

Izuku smiled. “I see… congratulations!”

“Thank you… but I don’t know if I should be looking that much forward to it.”

“Huh…?” The greenette mumbled in confusion.

“Well, you could figure I’m not loving the idea of my firstborn having to go to Hell with Touya for their cupid training.”

“What-?!” Izuku exclaimed and covered his mouth right away, whispering an apology to the employees and customers for raising his tone of voice.

“Why, I thought you knew that.”

“Yeah, I found out that several people around me are, well… you know, but I didn’t think that Touya was too.”

“But didn’t Bakugou tell you about his brother?”

Izuku went quiet and then started to mumble embarrassedly as Rumi laughed at him. “Come on, Midoriya, you just had to connect the dots!”

“Yeah, you’re right…”

“But what about you?”

“Uhm?”

“You look like the kind of guy who’d take good care of a kid, have you thought about adopting?”

The greenette shrugged. “I never thought much about it.”

“Well, it’s your choice.” Rumi said as she turned her attention back to the bodysuits.

Izuku wasn’t actually thinking of adopting a kid, but he wouldn’t lie that it was something he’d contemplate.

The couple saw themselves at a hospital’s reception, the greenette brought a big stuffed bear they bought on the way there along with him; they quickly went up to the indicated room and Bakugou couldn’t help but notice the small one’s thoughtful expression.

“It even looks like you’re the one having a baby, why do you look so nervous?”

“Ha ha, very funny.” He paused to sigh. “I was just wondering if they’ll like the gift.”

The Incubus shrugged. “It’s the baby who should like it and she’s not old enough to make that kind of distinction.”

“I still want to make a good impression.”

“Relax, it’s not something too small or inappropriate, I’m sure they’ll like it.”

Katsuki knocked on the door as they made it and they were received right away; Touya let them in and they soon spot the first-time mommy laying in the hospital bed with her firstborn in her arms, Tenko accompanied her alongside Rumi who, in her third pregnancy bimester, held her eldest daughter in her arms.

“You’re here.” Himiko smiled tiredly, it must’ve been a long night for her, after all.

“Oh, everyone’s here already?” Izuku mentioned as he quickly entered the room and handed the plushie to his boss. “We brought a gift for…” He looked at missus Shimura who got the message.

“Hana.” She added.

The greenette smiled in understanding. “Right; I hope Hana will like it!”

Tenko chuckled softly as he took the gift in his hands. “She’s still too young to make that kind of distinction, but I’m sure she’ll get attached to a gift from uncle Midoriya.”

His employee smiled awkwardly as Tenko kept the plushie away.

The just-arrived approached to take a better look at Hana. She got many features from her father, such as her thin, black hair and a freckle adorning her face below her lower lip, but one could notice that she also got her mother’s nose and the shape of her eyes too, their color, however, only time would tell.

“Aaaw, she’s so cute!” Izuku mentioned in admiration.

“She looks like the two of you.” Katsuki said.

At that moment, all eyes turned to the baby but Bakugou’s, who soon searched for his boyfriend beside him; he was gleaming. The Incubus always thought how Izuku would be a great father, but they never talked much about the subject.

Later, they had to give the new mommy some time alone to rest after the closing of visiting hours, so both the remaining couples agreed to go out to lunch together.

They updated on each other’s lives as they ate: what they’ve been up to before that, how things were going with the raising of their daughter, Mori, Rumi’s pregnancy and so on. Apparently their firstborn liked to color her father’s tattoos with colored markers, Izuku giggled at the information.

“It’s a kid’s thing. She loves Touya’s tattoos and sees them as a coloring book.” Rumi explained with a smile.

“And you let her?” Katsuki asked the redhead.

“We better let her have fun; her features will sprout soon and we won’t have much more time to spend as a family, besides, I don’t want to be like my old man.”

An uncomfortable silence fell upon the table and everyone turned to Mori who ate baby food in her father’s arms, oblivious to the turn of the conversation.

Two lumps were growing on her dark-skinned forehead and the same was probably happening on her coccyx, soon horns, wings and a tail would sprout from them and she’d be taken to start her training, so she wouldn’t have much more time to spend with her mother in the human world, her father on his end, wouldn’t have much more chances to see Rumi again until their daughter reaches the age of 20 years old and goes back to the surface as the next cupid of their generation. At least Touya was conscious enough not to lower himself to his father’s level.

After saying their goodbyes, both the couples went back to their respective homes; Izuku and Katsuki were living together at that point. The greenette soon slumped on the living room couch to rest from lunch.

“Aah… I’m stuffed.” He said with a sigh.

By his side, Kacchan looked lost in thought, which didn’t go unnoticed.

“Are you worried about something?” The freckled one asked.

Katsuki paused before replying. “Have you ever thought about having a kid?”

The sudden question almost made Izuku choke on his own saliva. “Wha- I mean… do you?”

The Incubus shrugged. “I’ve just been noticing since Mori was born and now Hana too… You must like kids, don’t you? We could always adopt, if you want.”

The greenette smiled softly. “Thanks, Kacchan… but you don’t have to.”

“Is that really what you want?”

“Well, kids are cool, but wouldn’t it be a bit hard to raise a child in our condition?”

“We still can make it work.”

Izuku paused thoughtfully. “Why are you insisting so much? Do you-?”

“I don’t know the kind of father I’d be and must confess I’m a bit scared… but, if you want, we can always find a way.”

“Kacchan… you really don’t have to, I’m happy with what we have now.”

Katsuki smiled genuinely. “Good… If you’re happy, that's all that matters.” He said with a kiss on the greenette.

The next few days went along as usual until the group of friends got a text message from Momo and Kyouka inviting everyone over; after setting a date, the friends then met at the shared apartment of the both of them.

“It’s so good that we’re meeting again! It’s been so long and I missed you guys.” Mina commented cheerfully where she sat on the living room couch.

Yaoyorozu giggled. “I guess we all can agree! Life’s been rushed lately.” She said with a loving look towards her partner.

“But anyway, you said you had an important announcement, what is it?” Uraraka asked excitedly.

Both the ladies exchanged shy glances in the middle of the silence in the room, it was a short moment until Jirou opened her mouth.

“Well… we’ve been talking between us and made an important decision that you should know.”

“Oh, just say it already! I can’t take that suspense!” Mina whined.

“It’ll be easier if you let them finish, Mina.” Eijirou mentioned.

The pink-haired girl then fell in a grumpy silence, everyone in the room laughed at her pout.

“As Kyouka was saying, we decided to take a step forward.” Momo’s comment won gasps from all the present ones. “We want to get married, so we’ll be moving to the United States.”

The silence that followed after the announcement was heavy with the shock of their friends.

“So… we won’t see you two anymore?” Denki said slowly.

The couple of women exchanged looks and they both fidgeted uncomfortably in their seats; Yaoyorozu cleaned her throat.

“We’ll come to visit whenever we can and will be happy if you do the same, you’re all invited to the ceremony by the way, but we’ll understand in case you can’t show up! It’s just that we really wanted this, so…”

Noticing his slip, Kaminari bit his tongue awkwardly, it wasn’t long before his partner smacked the back of his neck.

“What Den means is that we’re happy for you, but you’ll be missed.” Shinsou said monotonously.

“What the fuck, Toshi?!” Denki complained as he rubbed his neck.

Their friends laughed at the scene.

“Is okay, we know it can be hard… You’ll also be dearly missed, guys!” Kyouka spoke up.

“Either way, you better keep in contact or I’ll hunt you down to the darkest corner of the planet!” Mina exclaimed.

“Don’t worry, we will!” Momo agreed with a bright smile.

“But tell us: when will the wedding be?” Uraraka asked curiously.

“It’s still soon to tell, we’re setting up our trip before.” The black-haired woman with a ponytail replied.

“I can’t wait! Do you plan to adopt as well?” The brunette asked, wanting to know more.

“We haven’t talked much about that yet, but who knows…?” Kyouka said as she turned to her partner.

“In that case, we must as well celebrate!” Itsuka spoke up. “For the couple and to enjoy the time we have left… What do you say?”

They all smiled at her, nobody spoke up against it.

They threw an improvised party at both the ladies’ apartment; they turned on the stereo and served themselves with the drinks and snacks that were left in the fridge; it wasn’t much, but it was worth it. They soon wouldn’t have many other chances to see Yaoyorozu and Jirou, so they partied as such.

The night ended with speeches from their friends in appreciation to the couple, they rested and talked a bit more before having to call it a night.

Months later, they all gathered at the airport to say their goodbyes.

“Thank you for everything, guys… see you on the next one!” Kyouka said as they finished hugging all their friends.

“You’ll be missed.” Katsuki confessed.

Izuku nodded in agreement. “Have a nice trip!”

“Are you nervous? It’s a new start, after all.” Shinsou asked Jirou.

“A little bit, yes, but I’m more used to it than Yaomomo.” She confessed.

“I thought so.” The purple one smiled with a hand on his neck.

“Sure.” Kyouka laughed. “Now can you get your boyfriend off my fiancé?”

They both turned to Momo and Denki who hugged her tightly and cried out incomprehensible words; Shinsou impatiently pulled him away from the lady for it was time to take off. They waved their last goodbyes and watched the couple leave to the boarding gate.

Some days went by, the group of friends still kept in contact with Yaoyorozu and Jirou through text as they promised. One morning, shortly after they received the wedding invitations, Izuku woke up with a text notification on his phone, as he checked it out, he hopped off of bed, suddenly more awake.

“Hey, what happened?” Katsuki asked, alarmed from his place in the bed.

“I’m heading out, see you later!” The greenette yanked his coat off the closet and put on his shoes, running out of home still in his pajamas.

“Izuku-!” Kacchan tried to call from the bedroom, but his boyfriend had already slammed the front door shut in a hurry, leaving a confused Incubus behind.

The freckled one ran through the streets of that cold morning with a single path in mind; chances were low, but he still had hopes that that text could be true.

Making it to the local park, he spotted the couple of friends that just made it there as well.

“Iida, Uraraka! Did he call you here too?” The greenette asked.

The tallest one nodded. “You too, as it seems.” He said in a huff.

“Where could he be?” The brunette eyed her surroundings frenetically.

They all froze in place and stared at the figure that approached with caution.

“You’re here…” The bicolor spoke up to receive a perplexed silence in return. “Look, I… went through it several times to think of a better way to say it, but words are not enough to apologize… I know it may be selfish and I don’t deserve it, but you have no idea how much I missed you… I backed away to protect myself and the worst of it is that I still don’t have the courage to face the situation, that’s why I called you here when I found out that… well, that she is no longer in Japan. I know I don’t deserve it, but I’d like to ask-”

Shouto looked down, his words were cut short by a sudden hug.

“That’s enough, Todoroki… you don’t have to explain yourself, we get it. We missed you, idiot.”

Iida and Uraraka gasped, Midoriya’s initiative was enough to bring tears to his heterochromatic eyes; they’ve never seen him crying before.

The couple jumped in the middle of the two of them and joined the hug, everyone was emotional with the return of their friend, so distracted by the moment they didn’t notice the blonde figure that followed Izuku out of curiosity, watching the scene from afar.

Even though he didn’t think that Shouto deserved it, Bakugou couldn’t help but smile, his soulmate was happy after all and that’s all that mattered.

Author's Note

Touya would adopt Rumi’s surname at their wedding for sure ‘w’ “Todoroki” is a higher-prestiged name thanks to Endeavor, which’s no different where the story happens, but let’s face it… it’s Endeavor, and he also did as bad as Bakugou in my version, trust me >.>
